The Selection Process

At the JCI Mauritius level, 3 individuals will be recognized for their outstanding achievement in one of the above categories.  JCI Mauritius will elect to nominate up to three top individuals to the international level.

Ten international finalists will be chosen competitively from a pool of applicants that consists of a maximum of three entrants (semi-finalists) from each participating National Organization plus three semi-finalists chosen from amongst the entrants from countries not holding a competition.

Judging

Judges of the JCI Mauritius TOYP comprises usually of a JCI experienced member who acts as Jury Chairperson and three or five non JCI members, one of which includes the potential sponsor, business and community leaders and university professors.

The judging is done in two phases with a screening process to establish a short list of finalists. These finalists are submitted to the judging panel, who then select the 3 honorees.

The judges are asked to base their decisions on three general criteria:

  1. How well the nominee exemplifies the principles articulated in the JCI Values.
  2. How the person’s achievement may have benefited his or her community, nation or the world.
  3. How the person’s achievement or leadership may have inspired others.

Based on the preferences of the judges, a list of 3 honorees is drawn up and published as winners of the JCI Mauritius TOYP Award. Moreover, the 3 honorees will represent Mauritius and their portfolio will be judged for the JCI TOYP – Ten Outstanding Young Person of the World Award.

The JCI Mauritius TOYP Ceremony

An awards night shall be held in the last week of May or early June to close the JCI Mauritius TOYP 2017 and reward all the participants for this event. The local awards night shall culminate with the recognition of The Outstanding Young Mauritian.

This does not stop here. Like every year, a formal awards ceremony shall be organized to present trophies to these Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World.

JCI Members will share experiences and find new ways to create positive change on both local and global levels. At this event, JCI’s critical mass of young people will unite to magnify the positive impact of the JCI movement.
